A cleaner Delhi starts with small hands picking up one piece at a time. Feeding Universe runs cleaning drives at the places that need it most: the banks of the Yamuna, our parks, forests and green belts, and the roads we walk on every day.

Our first drive: Yamuna ghat, Kashmere Gate

On 5 April 2026, we went to a Yamuna ghat near Kashmere Gate. We did not have enough volunteers of our own, so we reached out to students from the NSS (National Service Scheme), and they came with us. Together we walked along the ghat, picked up waste from the steps and the riverbank, and filled 4 sacks.

The stretch of the Yamuna that flows through Delhi is among the most polluted in the country. Some of that comes from drains and factories, which only big changes can fix. But some of it is what we leave behind: plastic bags, bottles, wrappers and offerings wrapped in polythene. That part, all of us can do something about.

Where we clean

  • Rivers: the Yamuna ghats and riverbanks.
  • Parks: public parks like Central Park in Connaught Place, where food wrappers, bottles and leftovers are left behind after people eat and relax.
  • Forests and green belts: plastic and waste left behind on trails and in green areas.
  • Roads and markets: streets and corners where garbage piles up.

Small things you can do every day

  • Carry a cloth bag and say no to polythene.
  • Do not throw plastic, wrappers or bottles on the road, in parks or near the river.
  • After a picnic, take your waste back with you.
  • If you offer flowers or puja items at the river, take them out of the polythene first.
  • If you see litter, pick up just one piece. It adds up.
