Every year on 16 October, the world observes World Food Day. It is a day to remember something simple but powerful: food is not a luxury. It is the first thing every living being needs to grow, learn, work and dream.
Yet, in our own cities, many children still go to sleep on an empty stomach. Families living on the streets often don’t know where their next meal will come from. And thousands of stray animals spend their days searching for scraps. At Feeding Universe, this is the reality that pushed us to start.

Hunger is more than an empty stomach
When a child is hungry, it doesn’t only affect their body. A hungry child finds it hard to concentrate in class, falls sick more often, and slowly loses the energy to play, learn and hope. Hunger quietly takes away a child’s chance to reach their potential.
That is why we believe feeding means more than just food. It means care, dignity, education and a cleaner world. Everything a being needs to live a healthy, happy life.
What we do, every week
Feeding Universe is a volunteer-run initiative in Delhi. Every week, ordinary people like you give a few hours of their time to:
- Serve fresh, cooked meals to underprivileged children and families. We have served 10,000+ meals so far
- Feed stray animals through our dog, cow and bird feeding drives
- Support 200+ children with school fees, books and stationery
- Plant trees for cleaner air (500+ and counting)
- Spend time with elders and children at old age homes, orphanages and special schools

Small acts, big change
You don’t need to be rich or have a lot of free time to make a difference. A single meal, a notebook or two hours on a Sunday can change someone’s day, and sometimes their life.
This World Food Day, here are a few simple things you can do:
- Never waste food. Cook and order only what you need, and share extra food with someone who needs it.
- Feed a stray animal near your home. A little rice, roti or clean water goes a long way.
- Sponsor a meal. Cook or arrange food for one of our Sunday drives.
- Join a drive. Spend one Sunday with us and see the smiles for yourself.
- Spread the word. Share this post with your friends and family.
Join us this World Food Day
Every Sunday, we run a food drive, and some weeks it cannot happen simply because there isn’t enough food. If you can cook, sponsor or volunteer for even one Sunday, you will help make sure nobody near us sleeps hungry.
Join us this Sunday, 18 October. We are marking World Food Day by feeding cows and sharing food with underprivileged children in Delhi. See the drive details and join us here.
Because every being deserves nourishment, and together we can nourish the universe.
